Rage Against the Machine are tonight’s Countdown to Download 2010 Band
Posted on June 8th, 2010 No commentsWe’ve talked about Rage Against the Machine before – the huge deal that was the 2009 UK Christmas number 1 where an excellent Facebook group dedicated themselves to getting RATM’s Killing in the Name to the top spot ahead of the X-Factor. They succeded – for those who care, the X-Factor single made it to number 1 the following week but for many in the UK, the battle for the Christmas Number 1 slot was good fun until the X-Factor came along and spoiled it all. As a thankyou RATM promised a free gig to UK fans and that free gig happened last night in London. Were you there? How was it? Check out this fan vid – not rubbing it in about X-Factor at all are they? Listen to the crowd when the needle rips at 01:12!!
Anyway RATM will headline the Maurice Jones Stage at Download 2010 on Saturday from 9pm.
If you read my earlier post where I mentioned the Stone Temple Pilots you’ll maybe remember my mention of the Crow Soundtrack album – RATM also had an awesome song on there called Darkness (of Greed). Check it out:

Countdown to Download 2010 – Deftones play Donington
Posted on June 5th, 2010 No comments
So in case you haven’t heard the news, the Download Festival 2010 is within range of a piss-filled beer glass (plastic, of course). And to celebrate we’re nabbing a few Youtube videos (of some of the rockingest acts who will be there) from the interweb and passing them off as our own. This vid features Californian band known as Deftones. These guys have been around since 1988 and have 6 studio albums out there with the latest, Diamond Eyes being released in May 2010. The band are touring USA this Autumn but before they do, they’re hitting Donington Park and the Download 2010 Festival with everything they have. Which is a lot. They’ll be on the Maurice Jones Stage on Saturday at 7pm, immediately before Download Saturday headliners Rage Against the Machine. Check out the video for the first single from Diamond Eyes – Rocket Skates:

Further acts confirmed for Download 2010 including Slash and Cancer Bats

Several more acts have been announced for the Download 2010 Festival. The full list of additional acts is below and they join the likes of AC/DC, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, Aerosmith, Megadeth and the Stone Temple Pilots. Additional acts include Slash, Cancer Bats, The Damned Things, Porcupine Tree, White Wizzard, The Used and many more. Interesting that Slash and the Stone Temple Pilots are both set to play the Sunday evening. Former Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland left VR to rejoin STP in less than amicable circumstances (allegedly) – in one of the Classic Rock Slash Pack interviews with Slash, he mentions that although things were tough when both he and Weiland were in Velvet Revolver together, everything is cooler between them now that they’re apart. Scott blames the WAGS. Velvet Revolver have yet to find a replacement for Weiland and Slash is in no hurry since rushing to put VR together is why they took Weiland on in the first place. Speculation over the choice of replacement vocalist is rife (names banded about include Myles Kennedy (currently touring with Slash’s band and Engelbert Humperdinck).
Anyway… back to the original thread – went off on a tangent… sorry. The additional announced Download 2010 acts are:
Slash
Porcupine Tree
Michael Monroe
The Used
The Damned Things
Atreyu
Cancer Bats
Senser

Further to my last post… In case you can’t be bothered checking, Killing in the Name made it to the UK Christmas No. 1 slot ahead of the X-Factor tripe thanks to a Facebook campaign and a bunch of people who had no desire to see the X-Factor single at the top spot. Not to mention that it’s a belting song. As a thank you, the band vowed to put on a free gig for UK fans.
True to their word the RATM free UK gig will now go ahead on 6 June 2010 in London’s Finsbury Park. You’ll have to register for the chance to get your free tickets – register at the Rage Factor. Registration closes at midnight on Sunday 14th February so don’t hang around.

Rage against the X-Factor taking over UK Christmas number 1!
Posted on December 15th, 2009 No comments
Hi everyone… I’ve thrown my support, for what it’s worth, behind the campaign to have Rage Against the Machine’s classic track ‘Killing in the Name’ hit the UK number 1 slot this Christmas. You can buy the track for under a quid using the links below (or if you have iTunes, you know what to do). I find the prospect of another sugar-coated crappy Christmas number 1 from the International Bank of Cowell a depressing prospect. The lad who won seems like a nice enough kid but he’s a puppet (he was told by the presenters on GMTV yesterday that he was heading to the USA to try to break into the music scene there – the poor lad didn’t have a clue about this – let’s hope he doesn’t have a criminal record, but I’m sure the X-Factor legal goons have already checked that out before they let him win (allegedly)). The situation isn’t helped by the “news” that 19million poor, misguided souls tuned in for the X-Factor final, a sizable proportion of whom will have already pre-ordered the single.I don’t know about you but I’ve had it with the whole X-Factor thing ruining the battle for the Christmas number 1 slot. Not that the pre X-Factor Christmas number 1 singles were anything to get that excited about (e.g. Bob the Builder, East 17, Mr Blobby (shudder)) but it was always a bit of a thrill when Sir Cliffy of Richardom was kept off the top spot. Now it’s a foregone conclusion that the X-Factor Puppet will top the charts. Yawn.
It doesn’t have to be this way. So if you would like to see Rage Against the Machine hit the top spot ahead of the Cowell-Child, then you can follow the links below to buy a copy of ‘Killing in the Name’:
Send a message to Cowell and cronies: “F**k you, I won’t do what you tell me” (repeat many times).
If you have a Facebook account, then you can also join the Facebook RATM Campaign group here. Note this group keeps “disappearing” from Facebook for some reason or another so keep trying.
