  • Slash attacked on stage and then just keeps on playing

    Velvet Revolver - Slash

What does a pro guitarist do when something unexpected happens on stage?

He or she keeps on playing. Slash shows yet again he’s as cool as a cucumber on stage. A quick fix of his Gibson Les Paul by a roadie and Slash carries on playing Sweet Child o’ Mine as though nothing happened. What a pro!  Check out this footage of the incident that has materialised on YouTube in the last few of days.

Not sure what the point of the raging numpty who rushed him on stage (at 01:15 or so) was but NOBODY ruins the Sweet Child o’ Mine solo. Nobody. Well I know some people who do, but it’s unintentional, I suppose.  I’m sure rushing at Slash on stage was worth the kicking the fan probably received in the pit (maybe).

Anyone know what this fan’s issue was?

    I’ll try to find out.

LOS ANGELES, CA - NOVEMBER 18: (L-R) Rock hero...

Several more acts have been announced for the Download 2010 Festival. The full list of additional acts is below and they join the likes of AC/DC, Deftones, Rage Against the Machine, Aerosmith, Megadeth and the Stone Temple Pilots. Additional acts include Slash, Cancer Bats, The Damned Things, Porcupine Tree, White Wizzard, The Used and many more. Interesting that Slash and the Stone Temple Pilots are both set to play the Sunday evening. Former Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland left VR to rejoin STP in less than amicable circumstances (allegedly) – in one of the Classic Rock Slash Pack interviews with Slash, he mentions that although things were tough when both he and Weiland were in Velvet Revolver together, everything is cooler between them now that they’re apart. Scott blames the WAGS. Velvet Revolver have yet to find a replacement for Weiland and Slash is in no hurry since rushing to put VR together is why they took Weiland on in the first place. Speculation over the choice of replacement vocalist is rife (names banded about include Myles Kennedy (currently touring with Slash’s band and Engelbert Humperdinck).

Anyway… back to the original thread – went off on a tangent… sorry. The additional announced Download 2010 acts are:

    Slash
    Porcupine Tree
    Michael Monroe
    The Used
    The Damned Things
    Atreyu
    Cancer Bats
    Senser
    Sweethead
    Breed 77
    Nonpoint
    No Americana
    Halestorm
    Flyleaf
    White Wizzard
    Rock Sugar
    Holy Grail
    Straight Lines
    Tiger Please
    Revoker
    Young Guns
    Tyketto
    Year Long Disaster
    Enuff Z’Nuff
    Panic Cell
    Glamour Of The Kill
    Sybreed
    Die Apokalyptischen Reiter
    As I Lay Dying
    Zebrahead

The forthcoming album from Velvet Revolver and former GnR guitar player Slash’s solo project is just around the corner, but you can get it first (a whole month before it’s scheduled UK release date!) by pre-ordering the special edition of Classic Rock Presents Slash. The album comes with 2 additional bonus tracks and the magazine itself is dedictaed to the life of the great man. Duff has been on tour with his side project Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Matt has been drumming with Motorhead and Slash has been working on a solo project involving laying down tracks with numerous singers ranging from appetising collaborations with the likes of Iggy Pop, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters and Them Crooked Vultures), Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Lemmy Kilminster (Motorhead) and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge and now Slash’s frontman for the forthcoming Slash tour) to the rather head-scratching collaborations with Fergie and Cypress Hill (having said that here’s a vid of Fergie and Slash playing Sweet Child O’ Mine together. The guys filming this (or the folks standing close by) got rather excited by this collaboration :) ).

  • Wolfmother frontman records with Mr Saul Hudson, AKA Slash…

… for a track on Slash’s forthcoming solo album. This album hasn’t got an official release date but could be out by the end of the year according to BBC Newsbeat.

Andrew Stockdale, frontman with Aussie group Wolfmother will also perform with Slash’s benefit concert in L.A. Avalon Theatre (22 November 2009). Other acts to perform include Chris Cornell and none other than the man featuring in a lot of recent blog posts, the Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne.

Wolfmother’s new album, Cosmic Egg is due for release on 26 October – check out tracks here:

Slash has had plenty of time to focus on his forthcoming solo album since his current band, Velvet Revolver have yet to find a replacement for former singer Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) who left (amicably or otherwise) Velvet Revolver in 2008. Some of the other Velvet Revolver band members have their own spin off acts to keep them busy. Duff McKagan has been busy touring with his side-project Duff McKagan’s Loaded playing alongside the likes of Black Stone Cherry and The Parlor Mob. VR drummer Matt Sorum has amongst other things, been drumming with Motorhead (and evidently loving it) in some US dates to fill in for Motorhead regular drummer Mikkey Dee who is “away on safari”.
