Probably the first photos of AC/DC at Download Festival 2010 can be found on Rock Radio’s pages at the link below. Check out the Beard of Doom Tom Russell, backstage during setup, the AC/DC props arriving (AC/DC cannon, AC/DC bell, AC/DC showers and much much more). AC/DC had their own mega-stage set up right next door to the Download main stage.

  • Countdown to Download 2010 BFMV and ACDC – Download Radio 87.7FM

Posted on June 10th, 2010 GuitarSavvy No comments

Download 2010 Main StageSo some of you will be there already and I hope you’re as excited as I am to see the stages in all their glory. Rock Radio will be running the official Download Radio station on 87.7FM or listen on Rock Radio.

Anyway, Bullet for My Valentine are from Bridgend in Wales (UK) and have been around since 1998. Singer and rhythm guitarists is Matt Tuck and lead guitarist is Michael Paget, (both frequent visitors in the pages of Total Guitar Magazine). Jason James (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Michael Thomas (drums) complete this metal band lineup.

BFMV are playing the Ronnie James Dio stage TOMORROW NIGHT(!!!) (Friday) at 6:55pm. Here’s the band playing the 2009 Big Day Out Festival in Sydney, Australia. Matt has a bit of a potty mouth so if you’re offended don’t watch.

So the final band we’re going to feature in the run up to Download 2010 is one that needs no introduction. AC/DC are Aussie hard rockers featuring two of Glasgow’s favourite sons, the Young brothers (Malcolm and Angus – who moved to Australia from Cranhill in Glasgow when they were, er, young). AC/DC are headlining the Maurice Jones Stage tomorrow night 29 years on from the legendary Monsters of Rock Festival appearance at Castle Donington in 1981 during the time of Back in Black, the band’s bestselling album and the first to feature Brian Johnson. Johnson replaced Bon Scott who died in February 1980.

So that’s about it. Download Festival 2010 is here. The stages are built, the tents are pitched and already contain some drunken metalheads, the bands are arriving (hopefully they all have their equipment – Slayer once had to reshuffle their appearance afer their gear failed to materialise until after their scheduled show time – Damageplan (Dimebag Darrell Abbott’s band) stepped in and saved the day) and the Rock Radio Download station (Download FM) is on air now!

  • Watch AC/DC and Iron Man Trash Rochester Castle

Posted on April 23rd, 2010 GuitarSavvy No comments

AC/DC recently took on Iron Man in an architectural projection blastaway on the side of Rochester Castle in Kent, UK. This took place on 16 April 2010 and I’m sure you’ll agree, the results are just stunning – the impressive landmark that is Rochester Castle being trashed by AC/DC and Iron Man. The soundtrack to the forthcoming film Iron Man 2 is a compilation of 15 classic AC/DC tracks, including Back in Black, T.N.T. and War Machine. Iron Man 2 is released in UK cinemas on 29 April 2010. Scots-born Angus Young is celebrating his birthday today (31 March 2010). The school uniform wearin’, SG-rockin’, stage-thrashin’ AC/DC guitar player is 55 today. Angus was born on this day 31 March 1955 in Glasgow and was raised in the tough Cranhill area of the city before moving to Australia with his older brother Malcolm and the family in 1963. Angus and Malcolm established AC/DC in 1973.

He might have lost his Weegie accent since then.

    Yup… thought so. AC/DC rock!

Let There Be Rock, an AC/DC film, will be released on DVD in the first half of 2011. Let there Be Rock was filmed in December 1979 (when Bon Scott was still AC/DC vocalist – just 2 months prior to his untimely death at the age of 33) at the Pavillion de Paris.

Bonus material will be included on the Let There Be Rock DVD although details of this haven’t been announced yet.

  • Rock Radio poll: top rock tracks of all time sees Metallica’s Enter Sandman hit the top spot.

Posted on September 3rd, 2009 GuitarSavvy 1 comment

A recent Rock Radio 106.1 (UK) poll compiled the top 500 rock tracks of all time from the votes of thousands of Rock Radio listeners. Fans put Metallica at the top spot with Enter Sandman ahead of AC/DC (Back in Black) and Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven).  Other acts to feature prominently are Guns N’ Roses (Sweet Child o’ Mine, November Rain), Motorhead (Ace of Spades), Lynard Skynard (Freebird) and Pink Floyd (Comfortably Numb).

The top 10 looks like this:

    1     Enter Sandman – Metallica
    2    Back in Black – AC/DC
3    Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin
    4    Freebird – Lynyrd Skynyrd
    5    Sweet Child o’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
6    Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd
    7    Whole Lotta Rosie – AC/DC
    8    Kashmir – Led Zeppelin
9    Ace Of Spades – Motorhead
    10  One – Metallica

Although “classic rock” acts feature heavily in the placings, there’s a bit of grunge (Nirvana, placed at position 15 with Smells Like Teen Spirit), metal (Pantera at pos. 94 with Walk), punk (Sex Pistols at #52 with Pretty Vacant) and, dare I say it, “contemporary rock” acts like Muse (pos. 89 with Knights of Cydonia) and the Foo Fighters (#97 with Everlong) in there for good measure.

You can see the full list here…   what?  No Rammstein?

  • AC/DC’s Brian Johnson news again… source claims AC/DC frontman wants to quit the band because…

Posted on July 31st, 2009 GuitarSavvy 2 comments

… he’s getting too old for the grueling global AC/DC tour (like the Black Ice tour, currently in the USA-leg).  Brian Johnson, who is 61 years old is about ten years older than the rest of the band and is keen not to be seen to be carried by them.  The source (reputed to be a long term friend of the band) said that some nights are better than others for Johnson when AC/DC are on stage but that the frontman is “struggling”.

Importantly, AC/DC are committed to recording another albumand hope to do so with Johnson in place but whether the AC/DC frontman will tour with the band as part of the album release is not known at this stage.  If Brian Johnson does decide to quit the band, the Brothers Young and the band will look for a replacement singer (good luck with that one… Johnson, similar to the late Bon Scott, has an amazing but rare rock and roll voice that will be hard to top).

If the singer does leave, it will be an amicable departure and there are reported to be no hard feelings involved.  The AC/DC singer’s other interests include vintage car racing (did anyone see the interview with Brian Johnson on BBC’s Top Gear earlier this week?  He should do well, with the right car, we think.) and musical theatre.  Here’s another clip of AC/DC on their Black Ice Tour (Hampden Park in Glasgow on 30th June 2009) just to remind ourselves why the day Johnson quits will be a sad day indeed:
