New Deftones album on the way in May Free Legal Download Track Here
Posted on February 23rd, 2010 No commentsDeftones are well underway with production of their new album entitled Diamond Eyes, due for release on 18 May 2010. Check out the Deftones MySpace page here where you can get a link to a legal, free download of their latest single Rocket Skates. NOTE THAT THIS TRACK WON’T BE FREE FOR LONG SO MOVE FAST!
Diamond Eyes will replace their unfinished work Eros, which was abandoned after Deftones bass guitar player Chi Cheng was seriously hurt in a car crash back in 2008 (see original BBC news story here). Cheng is reported to be unable to talk or move but is still undergoing intensive treatment – so bass guitar duties were taken up by ex-Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega.

Wolfmother frontman records with Mr Saul Hudson, AKA Slash…
Posted on October 22nd, 2009 1 comment… for a track on Slash’s forthcoming solo album. This album hasn’t got an official release date but could be out by the end of the year according to BBC Newsbeat.
Andrew Stockdale, frontman with Aussie group Wolfmother will also perform with Slash’s benefit concert in L.A. Avalon Theatre (22 November 2009). Other acts to perform include Chris Cornell and none other than the man featuring in a lot of recent blog posts, the Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne.
Wolfmother’s new album, Cosmic Egg is due for release on 26 October – check out tracks here:
Slash has had plenty of time to focus on his forthcoming solo album since his current band, Velvet Revolver have yet to find a replacement for former singer Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) who left (amicably or otherwise) Velvet Revolver in 2008. Some of the other Velvet Revolver band members have their own spin off acts to keep them busy. Duff McKagan has been busy touring with his side-project Duff McKagan’s Loaded playing alongside the likes of Black Stone Cherry and The Parlor Mob. VR drummer Matt Sorum has amongst other things, been drumming with Motorhead (and evidently loving it) in some US dates to fill in for Motorhead regular drummer Mikkey Dee who is “away on safari”.

39 years on since the death of Jimi Hendrix – a new Gibson Jimi Hendrix Signature model guitar to be released…
Posted on September 19th, 2009 No comments
Today is the anniversary of the death of the inspirational guitarist Jimi Hendrix. And the day was marked by the announcement from Gibson Guitars that there will be a new Gibson Jimi Hendrix Signature Guitar. This soon to be unveiled Gibson signature model has been designed by Authentic Hendrix and Gibson. Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix and president/CEO of Authentic Hendrix, spoke at Gibson News about how the new guitar would reflect the passion and stage presence of the guitarist and would thus be “very colorful”. This guitar will be unveiled soon – GS will publish an updated post so you have a good look for yourself. Jimi’s famous style of taking right handed guitars and inverting them (which can affect their tone due to the different way in which the pickups and strings interact apparently) gives the unique sound we now associate with Jimi Hendrix and his work with the Jimi Hendrix Experience (not to mention the man’s sheer dedication and talent for playing guitar.Janie Hendrix also goes on to discuss the dizzying amount of the recorded but unreleased music material of Jimi is likely to be released over the next decade or so. There is so much material that Hendrix music releases could occur as frequently as every 12 to 18 months for 10 years or more.
Keep checking back for updates on the latest Gibson Jimi Hendrix Signature guitar model.

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr shares on the forthcoming album from The Cribs…
Posted on September 6th, 2009 No commentsJohnny Marr former guitarist with The Smiths, currently with The Cribs (and soon to be featured in the GuitarSavvy Guitar Influences section) has gone on record as saying that the forthcoming Cribs album (‘Ignore the Ignorant
‘ is due out on 7th September 2009) is the best music he has worked on for 25 years. Now a quick bit of mental arithmatic tells me that we’re talking about stuff that came out in 1984 or so. Looking at the career of Johnny Marr, we’re probably talking about the peak of the Smiths career – so this could be something special.
If you’re too young to remember The Smiths (vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, bass player Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce), this is the Manchester band (formed in 1982) who defined a generation of kids back in the 80′s with some amazing studio albums:
- The Smiths (1984)
- Meat is Murder (1985)
- The Queen is Dead (1986)
- Strangeways Here We Come (1987)
The Smiths
also released a number of compilation albums between 1984 and 2008).
So The Cribs are currently on tour in the UK and Ireland and you can check them out at a venue near you. If you’re a guitar fan, you should check them out, if only to see the legendary Johnny Marr play (his unique guitar sound stamps its mark over some great sounding tracks – see the vid at the bottom of this post) – tickets are available from Ticketmaster:
