Posted on June 12th, 2010 No commentsRock Radio’s Father Ted witnesses Dave’s attempts to watch AC/DC show while band’s flight prepares to leave without him
Let’s face it… seeing AC/DC is much more important than some poxy flight (sorry Vultures fans). I understand he made it so no harm done.

Countdown to Download 2010 BFMV and ACDC – Download Radio 87.7FM
Posted on June 10th, 2010 No comments
So some of you will be there already and I hope you’re as excited as I am to see the stages in all their glory. Rock Radio will be running the official Download Radio station on 87.7FM or listen on Rock Radio.Anyway, Bullet for My Valentine are from Bridgend in Wales (UK) and have been around since 1998. Singer and rhythm guitarists is Matt Tuck and lead guitarist is Michael Paget, (both frequent visitors in the pages of Total Guitar Magazine). Jason James (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Michael Thomas (drums) complete this metal band lineup.
BFMV are playing the Ronnie James Dio stage TOMORROW NIGHT(!!!) (Friday) at 6:55pm. Here’s the band playing the 2009 Big Day Out Festival in Sydney, Australia. Matt has a bit of a potty mouth so if you’re offended don’t watch.
So the final band we’re going to feature in the run up to Download 2010 is one that needs no introduction. AC/DC are Aussie hard rockers featuring two of Glasgow’s favourite sons, the Young brothers (Malcolm and Angus – who moved to Australia from Cranhill in Glasgow when they were, er, young). AC/DC are headlining the Maurice Jones Stage tomorrow night 29 years on from the legendary Monsters of Rock Festival appearance at Castle Donington in 1981 during the time of Back in Black, the band’s bestselling album and the first to feature Brian Johnson. Johnson replaced Bon Scott who died in February 1980.
So that’s about it. Download Festival 2010 is here. The stages are built, the tents are pitched and already contain some drunken metalheads, the bands are arriving (hopefully they all have their equipment – Slayer once had to reshuffle their appearance afer their gear failed to materialise until after their scheduled show time – Damageplan (Dimebag Darrell Abbott’s band) stepped in and saved the day) and the Rock Radio Download station (Download FM) is on air now!

Hi everyone… just bigging up the Facebook campaign to get Frankie Miller’s demo track Bottle of Whisky an official release. The track is a brilliant wee song and deserves to be released in my opinion (for what it’s worth). The campaign is going strong (with numerous plugs on Rock Radio but needs more support. Please join up. Check out a clip of the track below.
Thank you!
GS
P.S. You can become a fan of Guitar Savvy on Facebook too, while you’re there

The successful Saturday evening take over sessions (by the likes of Slipknot, Megadeth, Wolfmother, Genesis, Porcupine Tree) continue tomorrow with Kelly Jones and Richard Jones of the Stereophonics. The lads will play music that has influenced them over the years to present day tracks. Don’t miss it – check out the Rock Radio website for more details.

Rock Radio 96.3 (UK) – Saturdays about to be taken over by the likes of Slipknot, Megadeth…
Posted on September 9th, 2009 3 comments… Wolfmother, Genesis, Porcupine Tree and Don Airey (if you haven’t heard of Don Airey, you really ought to check out his CV here).
Beginning this Saturday (12 September), Corey Taylor of Slipknot will take over 96.3 Rock Radio, talking about the last 10 years of Slipknot (wonder if he’ll mention how Joey Jordison is doing?) playing songs that inspired him and the band. The full Rock Radio takeover lineup is as follows (check back with Rock Radio for show times – no details online at the time of writing):
12 September 09: Corey Taylor of Slipknot
19 September 09: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth
26 September 09: Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother
3 October 09: Tony Banks of Genesis
10 October 09: Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree
17 October 09: Don Airey (currently keyboardist with Deep Purple - and what a career besides… Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake and, er, Andrew Lloyd Webber among others).
Listen on 96.3FM, DAB digital radio or online at Rock Radio.
Here’s a wee clip of Porcupine Tree playing their (to my mind at least) best song – Drown with Me:

Rock Radio poll: top rock tracks of all time sees Metallica’s Enter Sandman hit the top spot.
Posted on September 3rd, 2009 1 commentA recent Rock Radio 106.1 (UK) poll compiled the top 500 rock tracks of all time from the votes of thousands of Rock Radio listeners. Fans put Metallica at the top spot with Enter Sandman ahead of AC/DC (Back in Black) and Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven). Other acts to feature prominently are Guns N’ Roses (Sweet Child o’ Mine, November Rain), Motorhead (Ace of Spades), Lynard Skynard (Freebird) and Pink Floyd (Comfortably Numb).
The top 10 looks like this:
1 Enter Sandman – Metallica
2 Back in Black – AC/DC
3 Stairway to Heaven – Led Zeppelin
4 Freebird – Lynyrd Skynyrd
5 Sweet Child o’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
6 Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd
7 Whole Lotta Rosie – AC/DC
8 Kashmir – Led Zeppelin
9 Ace Of Spades – Motorhead
10 One – MetallicaAlthough “classic rock” acts feature heavily in the placings, there’s a bit of grunge (Nirvana, placed at position 15 with Smells Like Teen Spirit), metal (Pantera at pos. 94 with Walk), punk (Sex Pistols at #52 with Pretty Vacant) and, dare I say it, “contemporary rock” acts like Muse (pos. 89 with Knights of Cydonia) and the Foo Fighters (#97 with Everlong) in there for good measure.
You can see the full list here… what? No Rammstein?
Thanks to Rock Radio and MusicRadar.com for this news.
