The Glastonbury Festival 2010 Lineup was announced earlier today – Slash and his band seem to be hitting several festivals this summer – joining them at Glasto are a couple of smaller acts called U2 (I’d never heard of them either… not bad apparently) and Muse. The full lineup can be seen on the Glasto website.

Gurning Guitarists
Posted on April 9th, 2010 No commentsWhile doing some research for my continuing mission to write increasingly unsophisticated blog posts, I was surfing Youtube and I came across a video by someone who calls himself David Meshow. Now this guy can really play guitar but part of his “appeal” (his videos can get millions of views) is the facial expressions he makes while playing (maybe it’s the eyebrows?). A quick glance of the comments beneath each of his videos tells us that it pisses some people off and yet he continues to get huge numbers of views. We’ve all seen drummers who manage to look like they’re chewing 3 toffees and a nettle, bass players who manage to drool 6 feet behind themselves and guitarists who look like they’re having a mid-coitus coronary. Here’s a small selection – these folks are really feeling the music.
1. David Meshow – Nice SG
2. Steve Vai – Playing guitar or watching an episode of The Office (the UK one)?
3. Kyle Gass – Is he wearing a….
4. Matt Bellamy (cool as a cucumber – here because of the lack of expression on this occasion – second MB vid is more like it)
5. B.B. King feeling it. What a legend!
6. Keith Moon – there for his explanation of the goldfish. Priceless.
7. Rodrigo y Gabriela – feel, concentration and focus – a proper “guitar face”
Absolutely no disrespect intended.

Muse and Kasabian split the top honours at the NME Awards

Last night’s NME Awards in London, hosted by former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, finished up with Muse beating the likes of Biffy Clyro, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Oasis to the Best British Band award. Kasabian snatched the Best Album prize (from Arctic Monkeys, Muse, The Cribs and The Horrors) for “West Ryder Lunatic Pauper Asylum” (preview tracks on Amazon player below – buy the album in mp3 for under a fiver. There’s also a guitar tab book for West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
available for those who want to learn to play guitar like Kasabian). Paul Weller (the Jam, Style Council) was awarded the Godlike Genius and godfathers of ska The Specials received the Outstanding Contribution To Music award. Best International Band was awarded to Paramore (nominated along with Kings of Leon, Green Day, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Vampire Weekend).
Finally… where were Oasis? I know they split up (maybe – who knows?). Liam and Noel Gallagher weren’t attending (despite their three nominations) but Oasis guitarist Gem Archer joined Paul Weller onstage, playing Weller’s new single “7+3 Is The Striker’s Name”. Perhaps the Gallaghers had some intel that once deadly rivals Blur were going to receive the Best Live Event award for their Hyde Park reunion gig – a bitter pill to swallow?
