Roundup – U2 pull out of Glasto, Led Zepelin may step in! Slipknot bass player found dead, Stones Number 1 again
Posted on May 26th, 2010 No commentsA huge blow to the Glastonbury festival organisers and fans when it became clear Bono (who underwent emergency surgery on his back after after injuring himself and experiencing partial paralysis in his legs during rehearsals for the band’s current tour) wouldn’t be fit in time for the festival and that U2 would have to pull out of Glasto. Then Jimmy Page went on record (well, in the Sun newspaper) stating he wouldn’t rule out a Led Zep reunion to fill in for U2. A real case of Oh NNNnnnn… YEEESS if it comes to pass! Having said that, Coldplay are also rumoured to be interested in stepping in. Not so good.
The death of Slipknot bass player Paul Gray is still not explained as police await the results of a toxicology screen as part of an autopsy on Paul’s body. “Maggots” (Slipknot fans) around the world are still in shock at Paul’s death. Watch this space for more news.
The Rolling Stones remastered album, Exile on Main Street hits the album chart top spot – the Stones’ first number one for more than 16 years!
Any other news… hmmm… Yes – I’m just back from Paris, France. Had a great time ta very much. Was entertained by a George Bush-hating guitarist on the steps of the Sacre Coeur. I didn’t have the heart to tell him Obama got in. Took some poor quality video which I may fire up here. Or not.
Peace

Rock Radio 96.3 (UK) – Saturdays about to be taken over by the likes of Slipknot, Megadeth…
Posted on September 9th, 2009 3 comments… Wolfmother, Genesis, Porcupine Tree and Don Airey (if you haven’t heard of Don Airey, you really ought to check out his CV here).
Beginning this Saturday (12 September), Corey Taylor of Slipknot will take over 96.3 Rock Radio, talking about the last 10 years of Slipknot (wonder if he’ll mention how Joey Jordison is doing?) playing songs that inspired him and the band. The full Rock Radio takeover lineup is as follows (check back with Rock Radio for show times – no details online at the time of writing):
12 September 09: Corey Taylor of Slipknot
19 September 09: Dave Mustaine of Megadeth
26 September 09: Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother
3 October 09: Tony Banks of Genesis
10 October 09: Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree
17 October 09: Don Airey (currently keyboardist with Deep Purple - and what a career besides… Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Gary Moore, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake and, er, Andrew Lloyd Webber among others).
Listen on 96.3FM, DAB digital radio or online at Rock Radio.
Here’s a wee clip of Porcupine Tree playing their (to my mind at least) best song – Drown with Me:

Update on “Joey Jordison and Zakk Wylde Hospitalized” post – Cypress Hill Smokeout!
Posted on September 1st, 2009 1 comment
The earlier post where I mentioned Zakk Wylde being hospitalized with a suspected blood clot and Joey Jordison, drummer with Slipknot, being hospitalized for “personal reasons”… rumour now has it that Joey Jordison was suffering with a suspected ruptured appendix (suffering being the operative word… ouch!).
Zakk Wylde is reported to be recovering at home following the discovery of several blood clots in his leg. Black Label Society have now pulled out of the Pedal to the Metal tour but the other bands (Mudvayne, Suicide Silence, Bury Your Dead and support band Hellzapoppin) will continue without them. We’re not sure when Zakk and BLS will be back on the road again but if we catch wind of anything, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Slipknot next… unsurprisingly, the August and September dates for Slipknot are cancelled (refunds are being offered) but the news on the official Slipknot website is that Slipknot will headline the Cypress Hill Smokeout! along with many other bands including Cypress Hill and Deftones on October 24th and 25th in San Manuel Amphitheatre and festival grounds in San Bernardino, CA. (for a two day music festival and cannabis expo hosted by none other than Cheech and Chong!). My take on this is that Joey is on the mend and will be fit and well by the Cypress Hill Smokeout dates. -
Rock Star Illnesses:- Zakk Wylde and Joey Jordison hospitalized…
Posted on August 24th, 2009 1 commentSo while sleeping off the effects of the nasty, evil winter vomiting virus, I missed a couple of things of note…

1) Zakk Wylde had a health scare… an apparent blood clot. The Black Label Society dude was carted off in an ambulance when he became ill after a gig in Montana on 19th August (hey I know that was almost a week ago, but it was news to me). He released a pic of himself in his hospital bed on Twitter. Rock on stockings on!
2) Joey Jordison, drummer with Slipknot has contracted an “unpecified illness” and the band were forced to cancel two dates: Seattle on Saturday (the KISW Pain in the Grass event) just before things were about to kick off and Washington last night. Fans are advised that the dates will be re-scheduled so watch this space.Hopefully that is it for now. Get well soon. Thanks to Rock Radio and NME for this news.
