  • Jimi Hendrix Fact File

Name:    Johnny Allen Hendrix (later changed to James Marshall Hendrix by his father)

Born:      27th November 1942, Seattle, USA

    Died:       18th September 1970

    Raised:   Seattle and Vancouver

    Career:

    • The Jimi Hendrix Experience
    • Gypsy Sun and Rainbows
    • Band of Gypsys
    • The Isley Brothers

    Style: Rock/Blues

Weapon(s) of choice: Guitars: Mainly Fender Stratocaster (right handed guitar strung and played upside down for the left handed Hendrix) as well as a Gibson Flying V.  Amplifiers: Vox, Fender and Marshall.  Effects pedals include wah-wah pedals and FuzzFace pedals (Arbiter).

Trivia: Famous for setting his guitar alight with lighter fluid on a couple of occasions.  Made fuzz and distortion effects a trademark style, so emulated by others.

Definitive Song:  There are so many to choose from including his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner but for me, it has to be “Hey Joe“, even though this is a cover version - see below - check out the solo at 1:40.  Awesome!
